CMM Wrap-Up

Clap hands for joy!

Clap hands for joy!

Our goal when we started our Charlotte’s Miracle Milk (CMM) campaign was to feed Charlotte until she was 2 as well as through her recovery from cranial surgery. Well she is almost 27 months and just had surgery- still getting breastmilk!!!
Even though I was convinced we could do it – I can’t help but be totally blown away!  The reality of such of feat is simply astounding and we owe it all to you <3……those who donated their hard earned money (sometimes several times) for banked milk – we raised a total of $20,000! To those who pumped for her, those who prayed for her.   You held us up in the depths of despair, accepted us, embraced us and shared in the ultimate joy of her awakening and recovery.  You stood by and supported  us during this entire time……tears of gratitude fall from my eyes and fill my heart.
How could I be so lucky to have you all?!  How could I be so blessed to have you in my life?!  Its simply because God is good.  “Ask and you shall receive.”
I am happy to report that we have be inundated with breastmilk over the last few weeks as there was lots of renewed interest.  Charlotte has enough milk now to get her into summer so we have decided to “rap up” our breastmilk collection.   Honestly, it makes me a little sad because this project has been so rewarding for me on so many levels.   My professional skills were invaluable providing an opportunity to educate and inform both medical people and the public on the benefits of breastmilk for injured children.  It gave me a sense of purpose and helped me to feel useful from a distance.  It fulfilled the promise I made to Charlotte that she would be given every advantage humanly possible to live, be loved and thrive through the miracle of breastmilk.  It renewed my belief in human kindness and God’s mercy.
So donors: Any milk you have pumped and set aside up to now for donation- I will graciously accept. Otherwise all good things must come to an end.  As you can imaging, left to my own volition, I would feed her breastmilk till forever- Lol
It is difficult to put into words the positive impact your donated miracle milk has had on Charlotte but I believe her amazing recovery speaks for itself.  The bigger picture is the impact it has on people all over the world who have shared this story.  The milk of human kindness….expressions of love for one little girl who has been mothered by so many is now legendary.
My prayer is that you will always know that you have done an amazing thing…selflessly and heartfelt.
Many, many thanks to you and big hugs for you all.
On behalf of our entire family,
Maria

Charlotte’s surgery went very well without complication. It’s was long and tedious but the surgeons were very happy with the outcome. No extra drains were needed- Yay! Our prayers were answered:)
God has blessed us once again with grace and mercy beyond our understanding.

Prayers for Charlotte

At this moment, Our little Charlotte is undergoing her cranial reconstruction surgery. This is where they will close her right skull with a titanium mesh plate- it is estimated to take 5 hrs.

Please pray that God guides and bestows special graces on neurosurgeon Dr Patel & his assistants as well as the plastic surgeon who will skillfully close the wound.

Our distinct prayers are that Charlotte will have a short stay and does not require shunts or drains for extra fluid buildup.

“When I was really hurting,
I prayed to the Lord.
He answered my prayer,
and took my worries away.”

Still Standing!

Here’s our girl standing and playing this morning. When Grandma called her name she turned and stopped for a photo op!

Her head has been shaved in preparation for her upcoming cranial reconstruction surgery scheduled for March 4th.

Thank you for your continued devotions – God has blessed this child and will continue to do so.
Charlotte had changed the hearts of so many people in His name:)

Look Who’s Standing!

Charlotte got her stander on Wednesday. We were on the list for 6 months and excited to see it arrive. This will help strengthen her legs and prepare her for walking (which we know she will eventually do). At this age she would be standing and walking. It brings great joy to see her standing. She ate and played at her new position and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The new year has had a great beginning. We have been seeing a local wound care specialist and The results have been great. We will keep you posted on her progress.

We feel very blessed and so thankful for everyday with Charlotte.image

Happy 2nd Birthday Charlotte Rose!

Written 7 hours ago

We celebrated Charlotte’s 2nd birthday today (Jan 2nd) and reflected on how far she has come and how far we all have come since her birthday last year (which was celebrated in the pediatric ICU).
A simply, awe-inspiring journey fueled by pure faith.
We had a special visitor today! Jeff, who was the trauma hawk pilot when Charlotte was air-lifted via helicopter to St. Mary’s Hospital last year.  Thankfully, he has stayed in touch with us over the year and he continues to be amazed by our miracle child!
Charlotte tried to sing along with her birthday song and loved her cupcake. We are so blessed to have her in our lives!
Please continue to keep our Charlotte close to your heart and in your prayers.  She is on a steady course of recovery- each day brings new insights and discoveries – each day a gift.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

It was most certainly a blessed holiday for all of us.  Annette decked the halls – big time to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus and Charlotte’s 2nd Christmas.

Annette decorated a beautiful white tree in Charlotte’s room with a mermaid theme and set up her playschool nativity set which sat under the tree for her last year.

On Christmas morning Charlotte enjoyed tearing and eating the wrapping paper on her gifts!  Santa, family & friends were very generous……thank you all for your love and support.

We are prepping Charlotte for her upcoming cranial reconstruction – as you may notice her new hair do 🙂

Wishing you many blessing in the New Year!

One Year Aniversary of Charlotte’s Miracle

Written Dec 12, 2013 9:57pm

It was one year ago today that we had braced ourselves to say our goodbyes to Charlotte.  This was the day she was to be taken off the respirator because there was no more hope for her chances of survival,  Annette, Will, Nanny Sharon and I arrived to her room . There we found Hannah and Maria with the MIRACULOUS news that Charlotte had “woken up”. Looking back, it was the most profound moment of our lives. We have been given the gift of truly understanding of what is important in life. Charlotte reminds us everyday of God’s glory. Her face radiates love; she surpasses every hurdle she encounters. Day after day she amazes us. We have met so many wonderful people that have been put into place for Charlotte. We only wish we can give back as much as has been given to us by Charlotte, our family, friends, therapist, nurses and doctors. Every moment with Charlotte reminds us of how amazing God’s love is for us.

Thanksgiving With Charlotte :)

Written Dec 8, 2013 11:23am

Last week I had the awesome pleasure of spending 6 days with Charlotte and family including Dad for Thanksgiving.  She is doing so well- I couldn’t believe the difference, even better than in the beginning of November when she was here in NJ.   She sits and plays with toys, loves books and music and actually tries to sing!  We had my Dad do one of those recorded books in his voice ” Twas the Night before Christmas” – she especially loves that.   Charlotte is so snugly & cuddly – she lives to be rocked to sleep and we love doing it! She is making a lot of noise- not real words yet.  But we are optimistic since the part of her brain that deals with speak has not been too damaged.  The gross motor area appears to be intact so they believe she will walk….eventually.  Sitting up unassisted in a short term goal but since her cranial bone flap is open still it hard to do too much.  Our hope is that her cranial reconstruction will take place sometime in Jan….that alone will speed up a lot of her progress.  Charlotte has an EEG to look at her brain function since she experienced what appears to be a few “focal” seizures. Results were at first a little hard to swallow: the right side of her brain is basically non-functional: 60-70% of her entire brain is either dead or damaged 😦  There was quite a bit of epileptic activity as well.  So they increased her Kepra (anti-seizure medication) and she is doing much better.   Please keep in mind as we do- The left side of the brain is the dominant side – thankfully we have plenty of function there – the brain has tremendous plasticity to take over function.  Charlotte in the flesh, DOES NOT match her CT, MRI or EEG meaning the doctors find it hard to believe those are her results.  She far exceeds their expectations so we feel blessed ten fold. Also I also was able to hook Annette & Cabell up with a holistic practitioner friend of mine to start Charlotte on some homeopathic supplements and help maximize her nutritionally.   So we had much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday……..Great Grand Diddy & Charlotte here with us!  Truly a blessed miracle ❤ With love & gratitude  GrAuntie Maria

Until Next Time…….

GGD sees the family off with a packed car as they head back to Florida.   Cabell said he didn’t have this much stuff when he took Will to college!- Lol We are so glad they made the trip up- it’s was the best medicine for GGD who said, ” Charlotte perked me right up!”    She has a way of doing that I said- part of her many gifts ❤

Charlotte was so engaging to everyone she met- smiling and giggling esp at GGD’s funny duck noises!   There was a time when “they” said Charlotte may never smile -well our little miracle not only smiles but giggles too!   The Lord has blessed this child tenfold<3

“Milk Mommas”

Written Nov 12, 2013 6:29am

There were two small reception help at GrAuntie Maria’s office so Charlotte could meet some of her supporters and milk donors.
Here is Charlotte with one of her “milk momma”s, Mara who donated 1508.5 oz of her miracle milk to our little girl while still feeding her preemie, Grace!
No doubt, all the moms who have donated milk have a special connection with Charlotte -many were brought to tears when they held her finally…
We thank them for being an integral part in her road to recovery.
